Even imperialism admits: Hamas is getting stronger and stronger
Wall Street Journal poll shows Hamas' popularity growing

According to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), support for the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) “has risen slightly among Palestinians in Gaza since the ceasefire”, representing a direct “challenge” to Trump’s plan to dismantle the resistance’s military capacity. The newspaper, a well-known representative of Zionism and imperialism, reveals that the population applauds the drastic reduction in crime, and in the widespread looting that followed after the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
This admission by the WSJ completely dismantles the campaign propagated by the Zionists and their allies, who insist on portraying Hamas as a handful of isolated “fanatics” with no support among the Palestinian people. In practice, Hamas is proving to be an indispensable force for the daily survival of Gaza’s 2.3 million inhabitants, suffocated by years of blockade and systematic aggression. Hamas is Gaza, and Gaza is Hamas. The party expresses the determination of all the people to fight the occupation.
The WSJ claims that the secret behind this growing support lies in the concrete services Hamas provides to the population, restoring order amid the post-war chaos. As highlighted in recent news reports, Hamas fighters appeared on the streets as police and internal security forces shortly after the ceasefire, patrolling devastated neighborhoods and fighting thieves, bandits and rival collaborators. “We witnessed a total collapse: thieves, bandits and anarchy. No one could stop it except Hamas,” reported Hazem Sarour.
This link between Hamas and the people of Gaza, however, is nothing new. The Palestinian group has ruled the Gaza Strip for two decades.
A poll cited by the WSJ reinforces this trend: 51% of Gaza residents rated Hamas’ performance during the war positively – a jump from 43% in May and 39% just over a year ago. In addition, 41% said they would vote for the party in future elections, the highest rate since December 2023. The figures are impressive, given that Hamas has been fought intensely for two years by a genocidal army, heavily armed and supported by imperialist countries.
What the WSJ tries to present as news is merely a demonstration that support for Hamas remains unwavering. That is, that the struggle against the Israeli occupation is the program of the Palestinian masses. This, in turn, calls into question Trump’s “peace plan”, which aims to disarm the resistance and impose an international security force.
