VENEZUELA
Maduro quotes João Goulart and denounces CIA crimes
"They want to divide the people, foment hopelessness and justify intervention. But Venezuela will not surrender," the president declared

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro this week denounced a new stage of the US imperialist offensive against Venezuela, claiming that the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is carrying out covert operations and is organising international propaganda campaigns to destabilise the country and prepare a “coup d’état” disguised as a change of regime.
In a statement broadcast on state television, Maduro warned that the international media – controlled by the big capitalist monopolies – act in coordination with the CIA to create a negative image of Chavismo, systematically attacking the government and Venezuelan sovereignty.
“The United States and its instruments, such as the CIA and the global media apparatus, are waging a hybrid war against Venezuela. They want to destroy the independence won by our people and hand over our wealth to foreign capital,” the president declared.
According to reports published by teleSUR, the Venezuelan government has identified a series of psychological and information manipulation operations coordinated by US agencies such as the CIA and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
These operations, according to Maduro, are aimed at financing local media and journalists who act in favour of the imperialist campaign, spreading lies about alleged humanitarian crises and corruption.
The government says this strategy is part of a ‘hybrid war’ plan, which combines economic blockade, illegal sanctions, internal sabotage and information attacks. The aim is to undermine popular support for Chavismo and pave the way for a government subservient to US interests.
“They want to divide the people, foment hopelessness and justify intervention. But Venezuela will not surrender. No empire will defeat the will of a free people,” Maduro reaffirmed.
Maduro’s accusations add to a long list of interventions by the CIA and US imperialism in Latin America over the past decades. The Venezuelan president recalled that the agency has been directly involved in coups d’état against popular and nationalist governments throughout the region.
“The CIA was responsible for coups in Guatemala in 1954, in Chile against Salvador Allende in 1973, against João Goulart in Brazil in 1964, and more recently participated in the conspiracies against Evo Morales in Bolivia and against President Pedro Castillo in Peru. Now they want to repeat the same script in Venezuela,” Maduro denounced during a teleSUR broadcast.
The Chavista leader emphasised that in all these cases the objective is the same: to overthrow governments that defy US interests and restore regimes subservient to imperialism.
Venezuela, since the triumph of the so-called Bolivarian Revolution in 1998 with Hugo Chávez, has become one of the main targets of this offensive. Since then, the US has imposed economic blockades, sanctions and sabotage, as well as directly supporting conspiracies and invasion attempts, such as the failed Operation Gideon in 2020.
Maduro’s recent denunciations reveal once again the violent and anti-democratic character of imperialism. In the face of this offensive, the international solidarity of workers and oppressed peoples is essential. The defence of Venezuela is, at the same time, the defence of the sovereignty of all Latin American peoples.
