Taiwan increases war budget by 40 billion

Taiwan increases its defense budget by 40 billion dollars against China's alleged aggression, with the full support of US imperialism, which wants total war.

The government of Taiwan has announced a new supplementary defense budget package worth US$40 billion, in response to the increase in the alleged threat posed by China, according to the island’s president, Lai Ching-te, on Wednesday (26). This amount still depends on the approval of Taiwan’s parliament.

The recent announcements of massive investments in defense budgets, such as the one in Taiwan, with the explicit support of the United States, reveal imperialism’s strategy of war and confrontation against China and Russia. Unlike the propaganda spread by the bourgeois press, which claims that US and European imperialism is only defending itself against supposed Russian threats, these movements show a clear preparation for larger-scale conflicts, aimed at maintaining imperialism’s economic and political control over the world.

In the same vein, the intensification of military alliances in the Asia-Pacific region, including the strengthening of the US-led grouping and the constant pressure on Taiwan, reinforce imperialism’s offensive policy, which actively seeks to limit the expansion of Russia and China’s influence.

Last week, the diplomatic crisis provoked by statements made by Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in the Japanese parliament on November 7, that a Chinese attack on Taiwan could represent a “situation that threatens survival” and trigger a military response, further heightened tensions in the region. This episode exposed the climate of growing instability and the willingness of countries aligned with imperialism to openly challenge Chinese sovereignty, making it clear that imperialism wants an all-out war.

The big imperialist monopolies seek war not only against Russia and China, but have also intensified their offensive in Latin America, with Venezuela as a central focus. The United States has increased its military presence in the Caribbean, carrying out attacks and operations under the pretext of fighting drug trafficking, which the Venezuelan authorities denounce as real acts of war against the country. This offensive against Venezuela is part of imperialism’s policy to overthrow Nicolás Maduro and destabilize the entire region, seeking to control strategic resources and limit the influence of China and Russia.

These events make it clear that imperialism is not acting in the name of supposed “defense and democracy” but in a military escalation that threatens oppressed countries. The propaganda of protection against external aggression serves as a justification for the expansion of military spending and interventions in strategic regions, from Taiwan to Chinese territory, Russia and Latin America.
